Kaka has agreed a six-year contract to become the first player to join Real Marid since Florentino Perez returned to the presidency this month.
Reports said the transfer fee of around 68 million euros ($94.05 million) would make it the second biggest ever after Zinedine Zidane joined Real from Juventus for around 73 million euros in 2001.
Reactions from the men on the Madrid street were decidedly mixed. One said " I think he is a little bit old, and they have signed for to many years, too expensive."
Kaka completed a routine medical earlier on Monday (June 08) in Recife, where Brazil face Paraguay at home in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday.
"He seems too expensive, but if after all is good I think is worth. This is better than sign several cheap players that at final don't give good results," said another.
The official unveiling in Madrid is likely to take place at the end of the month, after the Confederations Cup in South Africa.
"I Think you know is a good thing. I think they need someone at front that is going to score more goals. Last season was difficult because without Van Nistelrooy was many more harder, I think is a fantastic opportunity to actually get in there," another told Reuters.
Perez has promised to deliver a "spectacular sporting project" built around the world's greatest players, with a reported 300 million euro war chest which will be used to finance a second 'Galactico era' at the Bernabeu,
follwing the signings of Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham in the past.
Perez has also been linked with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United , Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery, Liverpool's Xabi Alonso and Valencia duo David Villa and David Silva.
New coach Manuel Pellegrini is the man tasked with blending these talents into a team capable of challenging treble-winners Barcelona.
