'Babyshambles' lead singer and former 'Libertines' and frontman, Pete Doherty, goes solo.

PARLOPHONE -
Over the past few years Pete Doherty has been better known for his
troubles with drugs and the law - and for his relationship with supermodel
Kate Moss - than his actual music career.

But the one man media show's latest act is all about the music, with
the release of his first solo album, 'Grace/Wastelands'.

Doherty, who still fronts the Babyshambles and is currently working on
an album with them, said much of the songs from his solo offering have their
genesis in his previous work with them and the band that launched his career,
The Libertines.
"I think it was about time actually, yeah, just-- You know, you've
got a messy desk and you just start putting things in order and there's always
been this big pile of strong ideas but things I've always left on the way with
the Libertines and the Babyshambles. Songs that were never quite finished or
never really wanted to do, or felt was right to do," he explained.

A very public relationship and break up with Kate Moss as well a string
of arrests relating to drugs, car theft and driving offences kept Doherty in
the media spotlight

The violation of a probation order, eventually led to the singer being
jailed in April of last year, serving 29 days of his 14 week sentence.

Teaming up again with Babyshambles producer for 'Grace/Wasteland',
Stephen Street, Doherty said the personal problems that plagued his recordings
and performances in the past weren't an issue for his latest album.
"I think I was a bit more with it, although I wasn't with it last
time, but more with him (Street). There wasn't, wasn't, ah, too much cause for
alarm like last time," he said.

Doherty has remained an enigma in an industry that has waited for him
to deliver on a career that began so promisingly with his turn as frontman for
the Libertines in 2002.
"It's been my year, really. It's become my year. I've led a very
sheltered life, you know? And I think this record reflects that."
'Grace/Wastelands' is released on March 16.
