More than 260 women in high heels race across an 80-metre track in Sydney,
attempting to beat a world record for "the most number of people to
participate in a stiletto sprint".
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (SEPTEMBER 2, 2008) REUTERS -
Australian women strapped on their high heels in an attempt to break
the world record for "the most number of people ever to participate in a
stiletto sprint" on Tuesday (September 2) near the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The victorious sprinter takes home a prize money of 5,000 Australian
dollars.
More than 260 women dashed across the 80-metre distance, though some
fell on the pavement and others ended up walking to the finish line.
Women at every age in every shape jostled on the start line, hoping
to win a 5000 AUSD price money at the end.
At the starting mark hundreds who are strapped on their high-heels ran
the 80-metres course as some fell and others decided to walk.
Professional 400-metres hurdler, Brittney McGlone had no trouble racing
past her competitors to finish in first place.
A few men wearing stilettos were also spotted when the dust of the run
settled.
"I run in heels all the time, come on! Got to cross the road
somehow," an unidentified runner said after the race.
Previous record was broken in Holland when 150 women attended a similar
event.
