ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA WALT DISNEY VNR -
Disney has unveiled its updated take on the late 1950s House of the
Future.
Back in Tomorrowland, visitors between 1957 and 1967 could experience
what life would be like in the future - the future of 1986.
Now, 15 million U.S. dollars later Disney has envisioned the future
again. It's not exactly a video game but it is certainly an interactive
environment.
This new version is the convergence of five companies and the
integration of high-tech into everyday life. The Innovention Dream house is
what living could be if technology was built into the walls.
And in this house there are 2,500 pieces of digital media including
mounted wall frames, touch screens and a 100 inch TV.
Microsoft is one of the contributing companies so naturally the game
room features what else -- an Xbox 360 gaming console.
"We think that when Disneyland guests visit the Dream Home they'll
learn a lot about how Microsoft technologies and other partner technologies
can enhance their lives today. There are things that Xbox can do that you
probably don't know about. And there are things that Zune can do that you
probably don't know about. And through the magic of Disney storytelling and
the integration in the digital home, we think people will leave with a much
better idea of how their lives can be enhanced today," said Joe Belfiore,
Corporate Vp, Entertainment & Devices at Microsoft.
Disney's creation is not so much a home of the future but what today's
technology can create when integrated into everyday life.
