Rock star Pete Doherty walks after serving 29 days of a 14-week sentence
for breaching the terms of his probation, media reported.
LONDON, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM (MAY 6, 2008) ITN -
Wearing a suit and dark tie, the 29-year-old lead singer of the
Babyshambles told reporters waiting outside Wormwood Scrubs prison in west
London that he was happy to be out and was looking forward to a drink and
spending time with his cats.
Doherty has been in and out of court in recent months in connection
with his well-publicised battle with drug abuse.
At a court hearing in October he admitted a string of drug and driving
offences, but escaped jail when he was handed a suspended four-month prison
term.
Doherty, also known for his work with The Libertines, pleaded guilty to
driving illegally while in possession of crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and
cannabis.
When asked whether he took drugs behind bars, Doherty responded:
"Well I knew it was going to be a bit rough to start with --
overcrowding, and the medical facilities, they do their best they are good but
they can't really cater for I assume, junkies so I brought some in with
me."
Doherty has hit the headlines over his relationship with supermodel
Kate Moss, although the pair are no longer together. The prison sentence
forced Doherty to reschedule a performance at the Royal Albert Hall on April
26 and had cast doubt over his appearance at the Glastonbury festival at the
end of June.
