Bush offers condolences to the families of the 19 people who died in
Saturday's Oklahoma and Missouri tornadoes and says his daughter Jenna's
wedding was 'spectacular'.
WACO, TEXAS, UNITED STATES (MAY 11, 2008) U.S. POOL -
U.S. President George W. Bush on Sunday offered condolences and
prayers to the families of the 19 people killed in Missouri and Oklahoma when
tornadoes and violent storms ripped through the central and southeastern
United States.
Speaking at an airport in Waco where he boarded Air Force One to return
to Washington, Bush said the federal government would offer assistance.
"The federal government will be moving hard to help. I'll be in
touch with the governors to offer all the federal assistance we can," he
said.
The severe weather, which started along the border between Kansas and
Oklahoma on Saturday, moved into Georgia on Sunday.
Bush was in Texas for the wedding of his daughter Jenna to Henry Hager,
the son of the Virginia Republican Party chairman, in front of more than 200
family members and close friends.
He said the wedding was 'spectacular.'
"It's all we could have hoped for. The weather co-operated nicely
and just as the vows were exchanged, the sun set over our lake. Just a special
day and a wonderful day and we're mighty blessed," he said.
