The oldest known person in the world reaches yet another milestone. Edna
Parker celebrates her 115th birthday and is still going strong.
SHELBYVILLE, INDIANA, UNITED STATES (APRIL 20, 2008)
It was a big day at the Heritage House Convalescent Center in
Shelbyville on Sunday (April 20) as city officials, friends and relatives
gathered to wish Edna Parker a happy 115th birthday.
Parker was born on April 20th, 1893. She was confirmed last August by
the Guinness organisation as the oldest living person, eclipsing Portugal's
Maria de Jesus by 143 days.
Family members say Parker's long life can be attributed to her
Christian faith and her work ethic. After graduating from college in 1911, she
became a teacher, but gave that up when she married her husband Earl, a
farmer. Even though Earl died in 1945, Edna stayed on the farm until, at the
age of 99, she could no longer keep it going.
Sixteen years later, Edna Parker may not be up to the farming life, but
she can party with the best of them.
