Matt Damon accepts award for Best Film for Bourne Ultimatum at Empire Film Awards while Atonement scoops three wins. Scottish actors James McAvoy and Ewan McGregor take home top prizes at Empire Film Awards, voted on by the public.
LONDON, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM (MARCH 9, 2008) (ITN) - Wartime romance "Atonement" won three prizes at Empire magazine's annual awards ceremony, including best British film.
Its stars James McAvoy and Keira Knightley were named best actor and actress after missing out at the BAFTAs and Oscars.
The epic drama, based on Ian McEwan's novel, was nominated in six categories, including best director for Joe Wright.
The other nominees for the best UK film prize were: Sci-fi thriller "Sunshine"; police comedy "Hot Fuzz"; Joy Division biopic "Control" and social drama "This Is England".
The best film award went to spy thriller "The Bourne Ultimatum", starring Matt Damon as amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne.
Before the ceremony, Damon said the fact he was voted for by the general public means his career will go on.
"Yeah, because it's not uptight colleagues voting for you. It's like actual people who go and pay money to see movies so the more of these you can get nominated for, the better. It means you get to keep working for at least a couple more years," Damon said.
Earlier this year, Damon and comedienne Sarah Silverman put out a video on the internet of their joke affair entitled "I'm Fucking Matt Damon". Kimmel responded with his video on post-Oscar night with a handful of celebrities including Brad Pitt, Joan Jett, Good Charlotte's Benji and Joel Madden, Perry Farrell, Macy Gray, Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, Huey Lewis and Josh Groban. The video was called "I'm Fucking Ben Affleck".
"It was weird that was just a home video that Sarah (Silverman) and I made, just kind of for us and I didn't know she was going to show it to Jimmy (Kimmel) and then I was surprised to see it got all over... everybody saw it. Jimmy's response I thought was petty. It is what it is. You know, they have a lot of history and there's going to be anger there obviously but I think she's handled the whole thing really well," said Damon.
He added: "There's a time and a place for me to talk to him and I think he knows that and I want to give him his space to grieve because you know, I have been fucking his girlfriend for quite some time."
David Yates won the best director award for "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", while zombie movie "28 Weeks Later" picked up the best horror film prize.
Actor Sam Riley won the best newcomer award for his portrayal of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis.
Other winners at Sunday's ceremony included "Control" (soundtrack), "American Gangster" (thriller) and "Stardust" (sci-fi/fantasy).
The winners were chosen by readers of Empire magazine.
