A Brazilian surfer breaks his own record by catching a wave on a
30-feet-long surfboard for over ten seconds.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL (NOVEMBER 17, 2008) HENRIQUE DANIEL VNR -
A daring Brazilian surfer broke his own record on Monday (November
17) after riding a wave on an extra-long 30-foot (9.16-metre) surfboard for
over ten seconds.

Although Rico de Souza had scheduled his display for Saturday, the
55-year-old surfer managed to accomplish the feat during a trial a week
earlier.

Fearing the large waves and stormy weather expected for Rio de Janeiro
on Saturday, Souza decided to hold on to his test results which were recorded
on camera.

In 2006, the legendary surfer broke the Guinness World Record by riding
a wave on a 25.6-foot board (8.05-m), but he faced several difficulties
because the tip lacked bend.

From his prior experience, Souza developed the new 100-kilo (220-pound)
surfboard with the adjustments he had missed before.
Souza said that surfing the lengthy board was a challenging, but
thrilling experience.

"It was an exceptional wave, the wave was shaky, the board was
jumping, but I managed to stand firm and it was a thrilling sensation to catch
a half or one-metre wave (on such a long board) because it seems like you're
riding a 20, 30 or even 40-foot wave because it is a great adrenaline,"
he said, sitting in his workshop.

When asked about his future plans, the Brazilian surfer said he only
wanted to enjoy life and leave behind good deeds.

"Life is a joke and we have to take advantage of our passage
through earth in the best way possible, leaving behind good fruits and seeds
by living in a clean and honest way, so that we can always be happy and glad
with life," he said.

Souza also organized another record in September this year, when 88
people surfed the same wave for over ten seconds -- up four from 2007.
