Celebrities like U2 Frontman Bono help raise awarness for killer
disease.
Celebrities are lending their voices to the fight against
malaria, the disease that claims over a million lives each year.
U2 frontman Bono joined hands with Microsoft founder Bill Gates and
News Corporation President Peter Chernin in New York, to help raise three
billion dollars to fight malaria
Bono, singer saying:
"I would like to say that I'm not here as a rock star, really I am
here as a friend. I am a fan of "Malaria No More" and what you two
gentlemen have done is extraordinary. I am a great fan of Africa in
particular."
Another celebrity, American Idol winner Jordin Sparks recently headed to
Ghana to raise awareness for malaria, along with First Lady Laura Bush.
Newscorp President and 'Malaria No More' Chairman Peter Chernin talks about
the importance of celebrity.
Peter Chernin, President of News Corporation and Chairman,
Malaria No More saying:
"First in foremost you have to raise awareness, Bono has been
helpful, Will Smith just went to Africa for Malaria No More. The TV show
"24" did a whole malaria thing. American Idol was huge, so we have
begun to raise awareness."
The fight against the deadly killer, malaria is gaining ground, thanks in
part to the celebrities jumping on board.
