HP Ranked No. 1 in Worldwide Distributed System Management Software
Market Share; Company Also Ranked No. 1 in Worldwide Market Share for
Distributed Performance and Availability Management Software Submarket
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 2006--HP
(NYSE:HPQ)(Nasdaq:HPQ) today announced that market research firm IDC
has ranked HP as the worldwide market share leader in distributed
system management software for 2005.(1)
According to the IDC study, HP led the worldwide distributed system
management software market category for the third consecutive year
with a 14.5 percent market share for 2005.(1)
In a separate IDC study, HP ranked as the worldwide leader in market
share and software license revenue in the distributed performance and
availability management software market category for 2005.(2)
HP led the category for the fourth consecutive year, achieving market
share of 21.3 percent -- more than double that of the next two closest
competitors -- and software license revenue growth of 9.5 percent --
outpacing the overall one-year growth of 7.9 percent for the market
category.(2)

IDC defines the market categories as "that portion of system
management software used to manage systems and applications for
distributed operating environments, principally UNIX, Linux and

Business Process Insight, OpenView SOA Manager, OpenView Transaction
Analyzer and OpenView Internet Services;

-- Event automation: OpenView Operations for Windows(R), OpenView
Operations for UNIX and OpenView Smart Plug-Ins;
