Religious Doctrines And Haemophilia
Author: Jim Thio

Thousands of people are marching in outrage over a few
caricatures in Denmark.

When I heard that, I was very confused. There so many other
beliefs and opinions that humans have. We, for example, believe
that protons attract electrons with force inversely proportional
with the square of the distance.

Such beliefs have tremendously changed our life for the better.

Yet electromagnetic theory is never granted sacred status no
matter how many scientific evidences and benefits it has
conveyed. I've never heard thousands of people violently defend
any scientific evidences with the same fervor they defend
religious beliefs.

Why?

Perhaps evolution theory can show us some light into the
matter.

You see, a living organism are stuffs that satisfy 3 criteria.

1. Reproduce.
2. Inherit.
3. Mutate

Any things that satisfy all 3 criteria can be considered
living. Just like we consider germs, viruses, and humans as
living organism, we too can consider beliefs as living
organisms.

For example, the deadliest genetic diseseases, like
haemophilia, can only be found among kings and queens. Why? The
way haemophilia works is that it prohibits blood coagulation. So
anyone with haemophilia cannot bleed. If they bleed even a
little bit, the bleeding will never stop and they will die.
Obviously, only the super rich and privileged can afford such
diseases, which explains why we don't find haemophilia in the
general population.

The same way, perhaps, the most outrageous dangerous lies
humanities face are on beliefs that many considered most
sacred. If electromagnetism has many counter evidence in
science, and motivates people to blow themselves up killing
innocents, there is no way such theories would still sell. The
only way such theories will sell is if a false, dubious,
dangerous, theories, are called sacred.

Just like we can find the most dangerous genetic diseases in
the most noble and exalted humans in the world, the same way,
we can find the most dangerous, false prejudiced among the most
sacred and exalted beliefs in the world.

Many of us embrace Chritianity and despise Nazism. Well, even
Nazism don't cause that much damage now that it's no longer
protected by freedom of speech. Even Christianity can stiffle
growth and technology when protected by freedom of speech in
the middle age.

Whether an opinion will cause great harm to humanities depends
a lot on whether such opinions are protected from the scrutiny
of freedom of speech or not rather than on what the opinion is.

Hence, it's important that we do not support any sacred status
in favor of any belief. There should not be any laws infringing
freedom of speech under the pretext that the opinion might
offend opinions held sacred by others.

If we protect a belief from freedom of speech, dictators,
corruptors, and envy bigots will craved lies and force all of
us to believe those lies. People will have a hard time finding
the truth because the lies will be protected from freedom of
speech.
