The Webcast will feature Dr. Ben Shneiderman, a professor in the
Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland,
discussing a new frontier of business challenges that can be addressed
by letting operational business users interact with data visually.

Companies are increasingly turning to interactive, visual analytics
software to dynamically solve business problems. But it is the new
types of data available for use in combination with these analytics
tools that will empower operational users to make successful business
decisions even more rapidly. Dr. Shneiderman will spell out how
communities of users can maximize the power of data to ask and answer
new questions previously not possible. Specifically, Dr. Shneiderman
will detail:

-- systematic strategies for discovery that incorporate increasingly
powerful statistical tools and data mining methods, while
accommodating missing and uncertain data;

-- diverse data types such as time series, patient histories, maps,
and social networks, that allow users to handle a wider array of
problems;

-- tighter integration into organizational workflows that amplify
individual creativity with the catalytic benefits of social
creativity.
