Success Can Be Found in the Company You Keep
Terry Sparing
Everyone who comes my way has a different story. Some work long
hours to provide for their family, but have little time left to
spend with the family. Some work long and hard only to discover
that they are struggling to pay the bills at the end of the
month. Some simply despise the work that they do, or the people
for whom they work. And, some people would just like to be making
more money than they are making today.
Whatever the story they bring, they all share a similar goal. The
people who come my way are looking for success in their careers
and in their lives.
Whether you are searching for a few extra dollars every month or
a lot of extra dollars every year, please keep reading. If you
are looking for the financial freedom to be able to spend more
time with your family, definitely keep reading. You will not be
disappointed.
Success In Life Is Just a Matter of Concentration
"Life is simply a matter of concentration: you are what you set
out to be. You are a composite of the things you say, the books
you read, the thoughts you think, the company you keep, and the
things you desire to become." --- B.C. Forbes
Most people in life don't have a clue as to how they can get
ahead in life.
Too many people began adulthood with dreams of becoming
successful, and after a few years in the real world, they
gave up their dreams as unattainable.
You are obviously not one of these people. You still hold the
desire in your heart to be successful in your lifetime. If you
didn't, you would not bother reading this today.
While you may still hold firm to your dream, you are likely among
the masses that keep the dream close, and search far and wide for
the knowledge necessary to make your dream a reality.
The Knowledge That Leads To Success
There is something often referred to as the "80/20 Rule."
In principle, it follows the idea that 80% of a country's wealth
is held by 20% of its population. It also holds true that 80% of
the people who are wealthy in this country achieved their wealth
through some type of selling activity.
Considering the 80% of the wealthy have become wealthy due to the
sale of products and services, then it might make sense to get
into an occupation that is engaged in selling.
But wait! I am not a salesperson, and you are not either. That
is okay.
It is the knowledge of the idea that is important to our
discussion.
When you think of Bill Gates of Microsoft, how do you think of
him earning his money?
Yes, he designs software for the retail market. But, is he a
programmer first or a salesman first? Sure, he WAS a programmer
first, but NOW he is a salesman.
Do you see Bill Gates standing on the sales floor pitching his
products to individuals? Do you see him going door-to-door trying
to sell his wares to friends and family? "No" and "No", right?
But, he is still earning his living from selling products and
services.
As one of Microsoft's original programmers, he went on to teach
others how to program his software. As Microsoft's original
salesperson, he has since gone on to teach others how to sell his
products for him.
This is KEY to our discussion. He started out as the company's
salesman, and then he went on to TEACH others how to sell for
him.
Today, he is the spokesperson for a wide range of products and
services under the umbrella of the Microsoft Corporation. These
days, he is responsible for selling the image of Microsoft.
The Company You Keep
"The things you say, the books you read, the thoughts you think,
and the company you keep..."
It is more than just a dream --- it is a lifestyle.
When you want to find professional and personal success, you need
to seek out the people who share in your goals. Like-minded
people can help you reach your goals much quicker than you might
be able to do on your own.
People who have seen success themselves are more capable of
teaching you how to find success in your own life.
What you will learn as you move forward is that the product does
not matter. But, the company you keep is essential.
Bill Gates has not sold Windows 3.1 since circa 1994. Bill's
success does not rest on one product, and your successes will not
either.
Those individuals who are at the apex of the success curve find
that the best way they can continue to grow is to TEACH others
how to follow in their footsteps.
When you are serious about finding success in your life, it will
serve you well to seek out these people who are willing to mentor
your success. Be willing to seek out people who are willing to
teach you how to gain success and financial freedom. After all,
your success can be found in the company you keep.
