Day 2: New York Transit Crisis Sees Uplifting Animal Survival; Fifth
Avenue Veterinary Specialists Technician Braves Traffic to Rescue
Injured Chicken

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
WHAT: Why did the chicken cross the road? Perhaps the answer to
this age-old question lies between the growing transit strike
crisis in New York and a remarkable story of survival about
a stray and wounded chicken whose life fell into the hands
of one fast-acting New Yorker, who braved the painstakingly
gridlocked traffic to usher the bird to safety. Archie
Limpagnano, a veterinary technician at Fifth Avenue
Veterinary Specialists and 24-Hour Emergency Care (FAVS) in
Manhattan, and some co-workers were carpooling to work from
Queens, when Limpagnano noticed what appeared to be an
injured chicken on the 59th Street bridge. Getting out of
the car, he quickly captured the bird and drove it to the
hospital, where a critical care veterinarian examined the
chick and determined it had a broken wing as a result of
being twice hit by motorists. After undergoing treatment,
the chicken is now well on its way to recovery and has even
been adopted, thanks to the Mayor's Alliance for Animals
program. Like many New Yorkers, maybe the chicken crossed
the road simply to get to the other side.
