DEX-L10 Hoodia Encourages Weight Loss in Clinical Study
LAFAYETTE, LA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 12/15/05 -- Few studies have been conducted on the latest trend in dieting called Hoodia, but one clinical study has confirmed the results many Americans are experiencing.
Researchers from Bucks County Clinical Research in Philadelphia have completed a clinical study using DEX-L10 certified Hoodia Gordonii on overweight participants with a body mass index of 25 or higher.
The study shows that the median weight loss over 28 days is 10 pounds. Participants in the study did not alter their dietary or exercise habits, but took two DEX-L10 Hoodia Gordonii capsules daily. The first capsule, one hour prior to lunch with 8 ounces of water and the second capsule, one hour prior to dinner also with 8 ounces of water.
"The study shows the appetite suppressant effects of Hoodia, after it accumulates in the body for a few days, can help people cut their calories by more than half without feeling hungry," says Richard Goldfarb, M.D., medical director of the Philadelphia research center.
Goldfarb says the effectiveness of Hoodia can vary depending on where it is grown. In the study he used DEX-L10 certified Hoodia Gordonii to ensure he was using a pure Hoodia from the Kalahari Desert in South Africa that undergoes rigorous inspection and testing to verify its origin and species.
Hoodia Gordonii is a succulent plant that grows throughout the semi-arid areas of South Africa primarily in the Kalahari. The San people have traditionally used Hoodia stems as an appetite suppressant to stave off hunger during long hunting journeys.
"Hoodia Gordonii works within the satiety center of the brain by releasing a chemical compound similar to glucose but up to 100 times stronger," says Goldfarb. "The hypothalamus receives this signal as an indication that enough food has been consumed which in turn decreases the appetite."
DEX-L10 Hoodia Gordonii is also "CITES" certified, which means that the Department of Environmental Affairs of South Africa has approved it as safe for use in accordance with their convention on international trade in endangered species of South Africa. DEX-L10 Hoodia Gordonii can be purchased in stores including CVS Pharmacy, GNC or online at: http://www.slimcactus.com ($39.95). With each purchase of DEX-L10 Hoodia Gordonii, 5 percent of the raw material sales go to the San bushmen who harvest it.
