Annual competition to crown the woman with the longest hair takes place in Lithuania.

Lithuania's "Miss Longest Hair" competition recently attracted girls from across the country, many with more than a metre long hair, to vie for the title.

A girl's hair is her crowning glory.

So what better place to show off those lovely locks than at Lithuania's "Miss Longest Hair" competition.

Girls as young as 7 came from across the country to compete.

SOUNDBITE: Rasa Kazeniene, organiser of long hair competition, saying (Lithuanian):

"This is the sixth time the annual longest hair competition for women is being held in Lithuania. The competition will decide

who of the contestants has the longest and nicest hair now."

Competitors had to compete in two areas - the measuring of the hair and a special performance combining hair styling

and costume.

Chop sticks are used in this creation resembling the propellers on a helicopter.

While this contestant has gone for the earthy tree look.

The youngest of all the girls is keeping it simple.

And finally with a mane measuring an incredible 137 centimetres is this year's winner with a combination of bouffant, plaits and bows.

Winning came as no surprise to Aiste.

SOUNDBITE: Aiste Antanaityte, winner of Lithuanian longest hair competition saying (Lithuanian):

"I was expecting to win just like everyone else. Now that I have won I feel good."

The prize for her efforts, a goodie bag of hair and body products. Let's hope it includes plenty of shampoo.
