Five-year-old P Obeadh, limbo-skates 100 times under five cars in
motion at a speed of 10 kilometres per hour, in a bid to enter the Guinness
Record at Puducherry in south India on Sunday (May 04) according to reports
on Monday (May 05).
The event was flagged off by Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy who also
witnessed Obeadh's remarkable feat.
Obeadh, a class one student at Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School learnt
skating when he was only three years old.
He underwent training in martial arts and perfected the art of skating
under the guidance of Stalin, who is the founder and General Secretary of the
Puducherry Taekwondo Sports Association.
As for the record-making feat, he limbo-skated under one side of a car and
in a fraction of a second emerged from the other side. Thus in series,
stretching his legs almost flat and parallel to the ground, he limbo-skated
one vehicle after another.
All along, he was cheered by hundreds of admirers and many others who were
eager to watch such a rare stunt by a little kid.
Obeadh, with his legs wide apart and chin nearly touching the ground, moved
smoothly through the eight-inch gap under the cars without any sign of fear or
nervousness.
"Well, I am Obeadh and I am a student. I am happy performing this
feat. I wish to achieve more in due course of time," said P. Obeadh,
limbo-skating wonder.
Prior to the attempt, Obeadh had undergone training under a rope placed six
and a half inches above the ground and then he practised limbo skating under
moving vehicles for the past one month, putting in a minimum of four hours of
practice daily.
"Watching the kid's spirit of adventure, we trained him and he has not
failed us. We have sought endorsement from the Guinness Book of Records for
this unique feat of limbo-skating 100 times. We have the agreement. He
practised well," said Stalin, General Secretary of Puducherry Taekwondo
Sports Association, Puducherry.
The event drew hundreds of people but some of them complained that the
organisers seemed to have ignored the boy's safety to allow him perform a
dangerous stunt.
There was not even an ambulance present at the spot to take care of the
child in case of any emergency.
