Conservative party member Boris Johnson officially signs in as Mayor elect
of London after defeating Ken Livingstone.
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (MAY 2, 2008) ITN -
BORIS JOHNSON, MAYOR ELECT OF LONDON SAYED:
"Fantastic very, very good. No listen I am not going to be able to
keep you very long, but thank you very much for coming and thank you waiting
for so long. I am going to be going now down to have various meetings with
people who I hope will be joining my team. I have been elected on a very clear
manifesto to clear up crime, particularly on the basis which the Mayor is
directly responsible, on public transport. So I am going to be having
discussions about that and other matters with the police commissioner and the
transport commissioner, Peter Henry, and I hope very much to see you all at
City Hall later on. And I hope very much to get back on my bicycle as soon as
possible."
Adding:
"I want to build on the achievements of the last administration
and I want us all to put aside any personal, personal rancour, pronounced
correctly, or feelings of ideological, any ideological disputes we may have.
Put them aside, let's all put them aside adn work together to build on the
very considerable achievements of the last Mayor of London and make sure that
we create a London that is greater still.
