A tiara fit for a princess, but some worry jewel sales may slow down in
coming months due to a weakening global economy.
The diamond is so thick it can't be set in a pendant or necklace.
Weighing 101 carats, and set in a diamond tiara, the gem goes up for sale
in Christie's spring auction in Hong Kong next month.
Vickie Sek, Christie's jewellery expert in Asia, believes it will be
snapped up by a Middle Eastern family.

"I think maybe for the market of Dubai, the Middle East or maybe
some rich family that they want to buy for their daughter's
wedding."
Fine jewellery auctions have become increasingly popular in Asia, with
newly rich mainland Chinese buyers joining a group of select Hong Kong and
Taiwan customers.
Other big gems worth millions such as diamond rings and Jadeite jewels are
also expected to be snapped up.
But a large diamond seen worth up to $12 million dollars failed to sell
under the hammer earlier this month, leading some to question whether the
market for top tier gems may be suffering from global economic weakness.
Auction houses say demand is as high as ever especially for rare
pieces.
