WASHINGTON, Dec. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Barely two months have gone by since Benazir Bhutto escaped death at the hands of a suicide bomber, but today a successful gunman has pushed Pakistan to the brink of Civil War. During a rally on December 27, a single assassin was able to fatally shoot Bhutto in the head, killing her, before blowing himself up. Other supporters of the former Prime Minister were killed in the blast as well, and the event has stunned the country that has been riddled with assassination attempts at the hands of political militants.

Little is holding the country together -- especially not Musharraf, Pakistan's president. His political opponent, Nawaz Sharif, has been the target of violence before, including shots fired from a window today -- the same day as Bhutto's assassination.
