Tesla Motors, designer of the fully electric sports car called
the Tesla Roadster, unveiled it's flagship store on Thursday (May 1) in Los
Angeles, California.
The Tesla is making headlines for being the one of the first
alternative-fuel vehicles produced with the capabilities of a sports car. The
roadster seats two people and can travel approximately 200 miles on a single
charge.
Tesla will open it's second store near corporate headquarters in
Silicon Valley in Northern California. More stores are planned for Chicago,
New York and other cities by early next year.
The Roadster comes with a base price of nearly 100,000 dollars (USD)
and Tesla has pre-sold cars to the likes of California Governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger, for his wife Maria Shriver, and actor George Clooney. The
company will make 1,000 2008 model year cars.
The Roadster can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4 seconds and can be
recharged in under four hours.
The car, named after inventor and pioneer in electricity Nikola Tesla,
is powered by a 6,831-cell lithium-ion battery pack and has no emissions.
