Newsweek Launches NewsGator and FeedBurner Services

NEW YORK, March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Newsweek announced today it will launch services provided by NewsGator and FeedBurner to enhance Newsweek.com's ability to host and distribute its content. By using NewsGator technology to host news feeds, and FeedBurner's technology to improve distribution and tracking of these feeds, Newsweek.com will become the first major consumer magazine to adopt these services.

"Our users want information immediately -- and they want to control how and where they receive their information," says Newsweek.com Editor Deidre Depke. "We're happy to have found two partners using cutting-edge technology that have ease-of-use as their core mission." The launch of NewsGator and FeedBurner begins this week, and follows Newsweek's much-celebrated Technorati service, which began in Summer 2005. The NewsGator and FeedBurner products will enhance Newsweek's efforts to deliver content to mobile devices.

"RSS is changing the online news and information landscape," said A.V. "Sandy" Hamilton, executive vice president of sales, marketing and business development of NewsGator. "Newsweek is a prime example of how online content providers can leverage RSS to enrich their readers' online experience. We are pleased Newsweek selected NewsGator to help them meet their RSS objectives."

"Consumers are subscribing to their favorite content and asking for easy means to tag, share and distribute what they find interesting," said Rick Klau, vice president of business development at FeedBurner. "Newsweek has anticipated this demand and delivers by incorporating FeedBurner's FeedFlare service, a key enhancement that addresses subscribers' needs while building a significant audience to its feeds."
