Blackberry on the Brink
In a bitter patent dispute, Arlington, Va.-based NTP is suing Blackberry manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM), claiming infringements over the use of technology, apparently owned by NTP, that sends email over wireless networks to devices with mobile computer processors. Despite settlement estimates of between $450 million and $1 billion, talks have stalled and are currently awaiting reviews by U.S. District Judge James Spencer and the US Patents Office. If NTP's case is upheld, the Blackberry service could be shut down, impacting users in the US. (Mike Fox/ZUMA Press)
