City University Unveils New Online Communications Program
Students Nationwide Will Have Access to a Quality Fully Online Bachelor of
Science Degree
BELLEVUE, Wash., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- City University, a private, not-for-profit institution accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, is accepting applications for its first fully online Bachelor of Science in Communications program (BSC) set to begin in Spring 2006. The BSC will prepare graduates for roles in businesses, non-profit organizations and educational organizations where written, oral, quantitative and media communication skills are highly prized. City University developed the program after assessing the need for this type of program in the region.
"Fully online programs are increasingly sought by adult students who do not want to disrupt their work and family lives to complete their degrees," said City University's Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Fernando Leon Garcia. "This, combined with the increase in demand in businesses and organizations for employees with this set of skills, indicated a need that City University could fulfill and is consistent with the institution's mission of providing access to quality education."
With significant input from a team of well respected communications practitioners and higher education faculty from around the nation, the BSC was designed with a heavy emphasis on applied knowledge taught in the context of real-life experience. The program focuses on some of the fastest growing businesses and professional sectors including non-profits, health care organizations and marketing. The program ensures students develop knowledge and skills in interpersonal, organizational, international and mass communications. In addition, students are provided with opportunities for hands-on learning in real-world settings.
"With the clarity that comes from 20/20 hindsight, I can only say that I wish my undergrad and graduate communications courses had been as real-world oriented as those at City University," said Bonnie Kam, Director of Communications for the Bar Association of Erie County, NY and member of the BSC Program Development Advisory Team. "Theoretical courses are a necessary foundation, but practical coursework is also a must. The creators of this program have thoughtfully and deliberately combined the best of both."
