The UK's Energy Saving Trust, which promotes low carbon lifestyles and
efficient use of energy commissioned the research. Some 6,000 people across
five European countries took part. As well as being more likely to share a
bath than their European counterparts, Brits are also more likely to cuddle up
in bed to keep warm.

The British aren't generally seen as the most romantic of people
but new research appears to challenge that view.
The survey, commissioned by the UK's Energy Saving Trust, shows that
Brits are far more likely to share a bath than their European counterparts in
an effort to save money and energy.
Around 35 percent are happy to double up in the tub compared to only 8
percent of Swedes. Two community police officers were keen on the idea of
sharing.
''Yeah, I'd share a bath with my boyfriend I reckon. What about you?''
(second community police officer saying) ''Yeah I do actually on a daily basis
but I wouldn't say its to save money. It's just what we do.'' they said. One
female jogger thought it was a great idea. ''Got to share a bath it's the
best thing. Also you should run instead of using transport and cars.''
Clergyman Simon Cox wasn't so sure ''It sounds as though it's not an energy
saving so much as a friendly activity.'' he said.
The research, which marks Energy Saving Week, found that while many of
us want to be more green we feel we don't have the time. But Paula Owen, one
of the Trust's Energy Doctors, says it doesn't take long to change your
habits. ''It only takes a minute to turn your thermostat down 1 degree. That
will save you about 10 percent on your energy bills. If you turn your lights
out when you leave a room - make sure your tv and other equipment is off
standby at night. Put lids on pans when boiling water and just boil enough
water as you need in the kettle. That'll save you quite a bit over the
year.''
Those with a bit more time can go further. ''If you haven't got any
insulation in your loft that's one of the best things you can do to insulate
your home and save you around 200 pounds a year. If you've got cavity walls
which aren't filled that's another very effective measure where you can save
over 150 pounds on your heating bills each year.'' added Owen.
But if it's the more romantic savings that grab your attention Energy
Saving Week runs until October 26th. So grab the bubble bath and ready the
rubber duck for action.
