Cellulite: The Myths And The Truth!
Author: Mike Paetzold
What causes cellulite? How do we get it in the first place? Can
we get rid of it entirely? These are all questions that many of
us, particularly women, come across at some point in our lives
unless we're fortunate enough to be among the lucky few who
don't get cellulite. To even begin to find ways to loose that
cellulite, we should first take a look at some of the more
common myths behind the problem – and the truth!
Cellulite is the same as fat..
This is probably the most common misconception about cellulite.
While it is a kind of fat, cellulite is very different from the
usual type of fat we associate with our bodies. It causes the
skin to look dimpled rather than smooth, and forms just
underneath our skin in connecting tissue fibres.
Thin people don't get cellulite.
Unfortunately this is not true. While those who are overweight
tend to be more susceptible to cellulite, it can affect even the
most fit or thin people. Indeed, the world's press has kindly
highlighted the cellulite bumps on the legs of some well-known
models!
Men don't suffer from cellulite.
False - some actually do. Although women are more prone to
cellulite, mainly because of the way the connecting tissue is
held, men can get it too, especially if they have quickly gained
or lost weight.
Diet and exercise will help remove cellulite.
Yes and no. Dieting in itself can make the problem worse,
especially if we try to lose weight too quickly. Because of the
nature of cellulite, the fatty deposits sit underneath the skin
and this makes it harder to eradicate with exercise. We can,
however, improve our circulation by exercising, which in turn
will help disguise the appearance of cellulite. A healthier diet
can also help prevent the condition from getting worse, avoiding
toxins and eating foods high in anti-oxidants.
Creams or liposuction - which is best for removing cellulite?
Liposuction is an extreme solution, but one that a lot of women
consider paying for. The truth is, liposuction is not an ideal
answer for cellulite problems as this type of fat does not lend
itself to effective removal. There are, however, some very good
creams and lotions available. While none of these will
completely remove cellulite, some of the better products will
help to smooth out the skin and give it a better appearance.
Massage treatments can also be a good idea to alleviate the
symptoms.
Cellulite is a fact of life, we can accept that these small
irregularities in our bodies are natural and that there's little
we can do to remove them. For some people though, the condition
can be more severe and in this case you should seek advice and
shop around for the most effective solutions.
