Kate Winslet's drama teacher talks about her former Oscar-winning pupil.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES (FEBRUARY 22, 2009) A.M.P.A.S. -
Aspiring young actors at the Redroofs Theatre School in Reading,
Berkshire will have more inspiration to draw from after seeing one of their
alumni win an Academy Award at the weekend.
The school was once the training ground for Kate Winlset, who scooped a
Best Supporting Actress Oscar on Sunday (February 22) for her role as a
concentration camp guard in 'The Reader.'
Drama teacher Carolyn Mayling, who held a special party at the school
celebrating Winlset's win, said she had fond memories of her former pupil.
"Kate was here from the time she was 11 until she was 17,"
Mayling recalled. "She was a model student, absolutely fantastic to work
with, I taught her drama. She was very down to earth, extremely normal and we
are just absolutely thrilled for her."
Winslet had been nominated for an Academy Award five times before her
first Oscar win on Sunday.
