The latest celebrity news including the weekend box office, John Travolta's
tragic loss of his son and Hollywood's biggest star.
Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson's "Marley & Me," led the
North American box office for a second straight weekend, becoming the first
Christmas holiday picture to hit 100 million dollar (USD) mark. The adaptation
of the best-selling book about a loveable Labrador retriever earned just over
24 million over the weekend.
The Adam Sandler family comedy "Bedtime Stories" was No. 2 with
20 million. While, Aniston's former husband Brad Pitt followed with the
aging-backward fable "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." Rounding
out the top four was Tom Cruise's Hitler-assassination thriller
"Valkyrie."
John Travolta broke a two-day silence over the death of his 16-year-old son
Jett, saying he and his wife, actress Kelly Preston, were
"heartbroken" by their sudden loss. Their son, who had a history of
seizures, was found unconscious in a bathroom at the family's home in the
Bahamas on Friday (January 02, 2008) morning. An autopsy to determine the
cause of death is scheduled for Monday (January 05, 2009).
Actor Will Smith, star of "Hancock" and "Seven Pounds",
was voted the top money-making movie star of 2008. A couple of super heroes,
"Iron Man's" Robert Downey Jr and "Batman" star Christian
Bale came in second and third places respectively. The Poll asks movie theatre
owners to vote for the 10 stars they believe generated the most box office
revenue for their theatres during the year.
