Oprah tops the Forbes 100 Celebrity power list, Sean Connery the author and
Winehouse's drug suppliers busted.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES REUTERS -
Talk show host Oprah Winfrey is the world's most powerful celebrity
for the second straight year. That's according to the 2008 Forbes Celebrity
100 Power List. Also making the list were golfer Tiger Woods at number two,
Angelina Jolie at number three, Beyonce Knowles at four and David Beckham at
five. While Oprah's 275 million U.S. dollar haul over the year helped put her
on top, Internet presence, press clippings, magazine covers and TV and radio
mentions are also part of the formula. Falling short this year: Tom Hanks,
Scarlett Johansson, Elton John and Jessica Simpson.
Sean Connery is set to shake and stir this year's Edinburgh Book
Festival with the unveiling of his autobiography. The actor who defined the
role of British secret agent James Bond is a fierce Scottish nationalist, and
has titled his memoirs "Being a Scot." Connery will turn 78 on the
day of his appearance, which will also coincide with the 100th anniversary of
the birth of 007 creator, Ian Fleming.
A biography of sorts for pop star Madonna. Christopher Ciccone has
written a memoir called "Life With My Sister Madonna," about his
experiences living and working with his famous sibling. The book comes out
July, a month before the singer celebrates her 50th birthday.
Two people have been charged by London police for supplying drugs to
Amy Winehouse. The charges stem from a video that appeared to show the singer
smoking crack cocaine. Police say the two have been charged with conspiracy to
supply cocaine and ecstasy. The suspects were released on bail Thursday (June
12) and are due back in court on July 1.
