Hollywood stars Will Smith and Charlize Theron introduced their
latest movie "Hancock", about an unlikely superhero, in Berlin on
Tuesday (June 17).
Joking and laughing, Smith and Theron entertained journalists at the
news conference before heading for the Red Carpet later in the evening.
"Hancock" also stars Jason Bateman, who has just been signed
by Fox TV to develop a series project.
Smith, whose close association with Scientology has been hitting the
news, said he and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith had removed their two children from
their regular school for home studies and were planning to go ahead with
funding a private school that teaches based on Scientology methods.
Theron preferred daydreaming about superpowers and said, if she was to
wish for any, it would be flying, even though she was scared of it.
All actors voiced their support for the US Democrats presidential
candidate Barack Obama.
"Hancock" is scheduled to open on July 2 and is not actually
based on an actual comic but does promise to turn superhero conventions on
their head with its tale of a depressed, alcoholic, bumbling hero.
Other than goodies like Spiderman and Superman, "Hancock"
does not really care what happens after he has finished his superhero-job of
the day. And what seems to happen when Hancock intervenes is always mayhem.
He might save countless lives, but the damage done to objects and
environment always seems disproportionate.
Hancock is no run of the mill superhero, he is unfriendly, he drinks,
he does not care what anyone thinks. Until the day he saves the life of Ray
Embray (Jason Bateman), when Hancock's world is upside down, especially
meeting Embray's wife Mary (Charlize Theron).
