Dresses donated by Katherine Heigl, Heidi Klum, Amy Winehouse and other celebrities go under the hammer for charity.
The auction coincided with the UK release of romantic comedy "27 Dresses" starring Katherine Heigl and features red carpet gowns from some of the world's most glamourous women
LONDON, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM (MARCH 4, 2008) (REUTERS) - Over 27 dresses from Dolce & Gabbana to John Galliano and worn on some of the world's most famous bodies were being auctioned at online website eBay on Tuesday (March 4).
The dresses went on display at a fashion show in central London and opened with a frock by breast cancer survivor Kylie Minogue.
The white strapless cocktail dress was designed by John Galliano and had all the trademarks of the singer's signature sexiness.
Other gowns of note included a pink kaftan with diamante detailing owned by music diva Mariah Carey, a mini dress in copper owned by supermodel Naomi Campbell and a black cocktail dress with ruffles donated by Amy Winehouse, designed by Dolce & Gabbana.
Renee Zellweger donated a strapless cream frock with pink bodice detailing and British designer Jemima French dazzled the mostly female audience with a siren red number, designed by herself.
Paris Hilton also designed her own dress. The hotel heiress used gold circles and very little fabric to create a simple yet sultry party dress.
Katherine Heigl was unable to attend the auction, citing work commitments, but she donated a royal blue dress with silver lining and thanked the audience -- in a videotaped message -- for their participation in the fashion show.
"It's a fantastic chance I think for people to be able to own a part of celebrity they really like. And by doing that also giving back to the Lavender Trust to help women with breast cancer as well. All of it, all of it, I think, is great," soul diva and host of the event Mica Paris said after the show.
The Lavender Trust at Breast Cancer Care raises money specifically to fund information and support for younger women with breast cancer.
In "27 Dresses" Heigl plays a woman who is always the bridesmaid, with 27 dresses that clog up her closet, yet never coming close to the alter. She's obsessed with organising other people's weddings that her love life has come second.
The movie opens at cinemas across the United Kingdom on March 27.
