ALFONSO CUARON IN PRODUCTION ON THRILLER 'CHILDREN OF MEN,' STARRING
CLIVE OWEN, JULIANNE MOORE AND MICHAEL CAINE, FOR UNIVERSAL PICTURES

AND STRIKE ENTERTAINMENT

LONDON, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Pictures and Strike
Entertainment have begun production on the thriller "Children of Men,"
based upon P.D. James' best selling novel. Directed and co-written by
acclaimed filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron ("Harry Potter and the Prisoner of
Azkaban," "Y tu mama tambien"), "Children of Men" stars Academy
Award(R) nominee Clive Owen ("Closer," "Sin City"), Academy Award(R)
nominee Julianne Moore ("The Hours," "Far From Heaven"), Academy
Award(R) winner Michael Caine ("The Cider House Rules," "The Quiet
American"), Charlie Hunnam ("Nicholas Nickelby," "Cold Mountain") and
Chiwetel Ejiofor ("Kinky Boots," "Four Brothers"). The film is
produced by Marc Abraham, Eric Newman ("Spy Game," "Dawn of the
Dead"); Hilary Shor & Tony Smith ("Eye of the Beholder," "Beautopia");
and Iain Smith ("Alexander," "Cold Mountain"). It is adapted for the
screen by Cuaron, Timothy J. Sexton ("Live from Baghdad") and David
Arata ("Brokedown Palace").

"Children of Men" envisages a world one generation from now that has
fallen into anarchy on the heels of an infertility defect in the
population. The world's youngest citizen has just died at 18, and
humankind is facing the likelihood of its own extinction. Set against
a backdrop of London torn apart by violence and warring nationalistic
sects, "Children of Men" follows an unlikely champion of Earth's
survival: Theo (Owen), a disillusioned ex-activist turned bureaucrat,
who is forced to face his own demons and protect the planet's last
remaining hope.

To bring "Children of Men" to the screen, the filmmakers have
assembled a distinguished group of behind-the-scenes talent, including
director of photography Emmauel Lubezki ("Sleepy Hollow," "Ali");
production designers Geoffery Kirkland ("Mississippi Burning,"
"Angela's Ashes") and Jim Clay ("Love Actually," "About a Boy");
costume designer Jany Temime ("Harry Potter and the Prisoner of
Azkaban," "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire"); and hair and make-up
designer Graham Johnstone ("Bridget Jones Diary," "Spy Game").

"Children of Men" will film in the United Kingdom through the middle
of January. Universal Pictures will release the film in North America
on September 29, 2006.
