A Mexican tequila distilling company hopes to make the most expensive cognac bottle in the world, with a value of 1 million sterling pounds, made out of platinum, gold and diamonds.
Last July, Mexican tequila distilling company called Tequila Ley .925 made the most expensive tequila bottle in the world - which currently holds the Guinness World Book of Records title for the most expensive tequila bottle ever made - and tried to sell it to buyers in Dubai.
Tequila Ley .925 Company Chairman and Ceo, Fernando Altamirano, made the trip to Dubai.
His offer was rejected by Dubai buyers who told him that tequila was not considered a luxury spirit and would prefer to buy an expensive bottle containing cognac.
He then teamed up with Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac - one of the most prestigious cognac distilling companies in the world and proposed a partnership.
They designed a bottle made out of gold, platinum, 6,500 diamonds, housing a 100 year-old cognac.
Altamirano hopes to finish the bottle in six months and compete for another spot in the Guinness World Book of Records.
He then plans to return to Dubai. He explained:
"They (Dubai buyers) were very interested in the project but not in tequila, because tequila is not well known in Europe and Arabia (not known as luxury spirit), so we proposed the opportunity to make a bottle worth 1 million pounds containing cognac, with one of the most ancient cognacs in the world. We managed to get the cognac, an alliance with Henri IV Dudognon Heritage and I'm returning to Dubai to present the bottle."
Altamirano also plans to make to two less expensive bottles, one costing 135,000 pounds and another one with a market value of 85,000 pounds as well as 100 bottles costing 9,000 pounds. They will all contain 100-year-old Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac. He plans to sell them to experts and independent collectors.
In 2006, he imposed his first Guinness Record by selling a tequila platinum bottle worth $225,000 USD which he broke the following year by making another tequila bottle made out of platinum and diamonds valued at $1 million euros, which has not been sold yet.
