As part of a Thanksgiving Day tradition at the White House, U.S. President
George W. Bush spared two turkeys from the carving knife -- granting
"Pumpkin" and "Pecan" a presidential pardon.
WASHINGTON D.C., UNITED STATES (NOVEMBER 26, 2008) NBC -
A jovial U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday (November 26,
2008) issued a "full and unconditional presidential pardon" to two
turkeys who would otherwise faced an most ignominous end -- stuffed with
chestnuts and apples, slathered with a sage and peppercorn gravy, garnished
with cranberries and candied fruit, and served for the annual Thanksgiving Day
feast.
Bush said the two fortunate birds, "Pumpkin" and
"Pecan," would be sent to Disneyland in Florida, where they would
take part in a holiday parade.
The President, who will celebrate the holiday with his family at Camp
David, thanked the men and women serving in the U.S. military, as well as
volunteers and teachers.
