Even if you are limited on space, it is possible to make your
backyard beautiful. If you're thinking bikinis and hot tubs,
that's not what I mean! You can add a beautiful pond to your
tiny backyard.

Ponds are a great way to attract birds, butterflies and other
critters, and it can be a great place to add some lovely outside
plants.

Read on if you don't know how to build a pond.  It's actually
fairly easy and you can do it in about 10 easy steps.

How to build a pond:

1. Select the location of your pond.  The best tip on how to
build a pond is to make sure that you build it away from trees
and bushes. There will be less maintenance this way.

2. The next thing you will need to do is dig your pond.  You
can make the shape of the pond however you want, but you will
need to dig it between 8 and 24 inches deep.  Some people choose
to make the middle of the pond deeper than the sides.

3. Next, you will need to line your hole with a pond liner.
Some people choose to forgo this step.  If your soil contains a
lot of clay, you might be able to leave the liner out.

You will then need to add gravel to the bottom of your pond, so
keep this in mind while digging it.  Another tip for how to
build a pond is to place heavy rocks along the sides of the
liner to hold it in place.  You can cut it to size and bury the
edges.

4. A lot of people choose to add a pump and filter to their
pond.  With a small one, you don't have to. However, if you
choose to do so, you should do it now.

When learning how to build a pond, you will find that a pump
and filter keeps the water from getting stagnant. Most small
pumps come with a filter built in.

5. Now you can fill the pond with water. Voila! You have a
really nice pond that you can enjoy in your backyard.
