Decorating Basics
Author: Peter Velikanov

Decorating your own home is not only fun, but it is also a
relaxing way to spend your time. Putting up decorations do not
happen only during Christmas, but even on Halloween, on parties
or even when you just can't find anything better to do. People
change the look inside their homes, because they got sick and
tired of the way it looks, they have extra cash and find it
therapeutic or someone just criticized their old decorations.
You can find different stores, even online, that caters to your
needs and wants. There are things that you should consider
before shopping for home decors.

1. Budget. First and foremost, you need to know if you have
enough money or if you are willing to spend for a bunch of
decorations that sooner or later you will get sick of. But if
you have a credit card, then you have no worries here.

2. Personal Taste. Know what you really want. Do not be
influenced of what others have to say. You should be happy and
comfortable in your own home that reflects who you are.

3. Home. Look around your house to know what you want and need.
Buy stuff that can enhance and complement the look of your
house. Do not buy huge items if you can't find a place on where
to put them.

4. Lifestyle. If you smoke then do not place expensive pictures
around the places where you smoke. Chemicals from the smoke can
eventually destroy the picture. So whatever your lifestyle is
greatly affects what kind of decorations you should get and
where should you place them.

Home decor is all about personal style. But isn't it a waste of
time, not to mention money, if it is just meant to be displayed
and nothing more? How about you? Which would you prefer? Style
over function, function over style or both? Quite confusing,
right? So to help you make up your mind and finally start
shopping, here are some tidbits for each choice. After reading
you are guaranteed to be able to make a choice.

Style is present in everything around us. And would you believe
that in some countries, there is a law that everything, be it a
building or just a tree growing in the park, it should be
beautifully made. No wonder these countries have lots of
tourists flocking over. So if you want visitors to enjoy their
stay in your house, keep them in awe with your trendy figurines.
Paintings, sculptures and stuff toys are huge factors that can
make a house very homey. Some of these may be very expensive but
seeing your friends' facial expressions are worth it. But if you
travel a lot, you can buy lots of little knick-knacks abroad,
like clown figurines or dramaturgical masks. You may even adorn
your house with samurais or antique pistols that come from
varying countries.

On the other hand, some people are against useless and
expensive creations. Though they don't exactly hate the arts,
these kinds of people prefer function over style. If it is
indeed stylish but it's just of no use, then you are better off
without it. It's just a waste of money. This kind of mentality
is best for people who are driving the fast lane. Instead of
paintings, pictures should be hanged on the walls. They are not
as useful but at least, you personally know who these people
are.

There are also some people who either can't make up their minds
or really just have high standards over things. They want style
and function. Now that is a bit hard, isn't it? No, it's not
hard. Zebra-printed lounge chairs are quirky additions to your
house. They make very interesting conversation pieces. You can
also try making your own that is if you have the time, money and
most importantly the talent.
